Chosen Topic: Single Parenting

My independent novel "Home Again" first gave me the idea to talk about single parenting, but I decided to stick with it because I grew up with my mother and a guardian around. I wanted to know how single parenting affects children, and if it had any impact on my life. After doing further research on the topic, I chose to look at the differences and similarities between single mothers and fathers, and if being a single parent interfered with the ability to be a good parent.

Essential Questions

Over the next two weeks I will be annotating several pieces of research, writing a poem on my chosen topic, and will be completing double entry and dialectic journals to answer these essential questions:

  • How does being a single mother differ from being a single father?

  • Does being a single parent interfere with the ability to be a good parent?
